"Sometimes, you read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal, and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans read the book."

“I’m in love with you,” he said quietly.

"Augustus," I said.

"I am," he said. He was staring at me, and I could see the corners of his eyes crinkling. "I’m in love with you, and I’m not in the business of denying myself the simple pleasure of saying true things. I’m in love with you, and I know that love is just a shout into the void, and that oblivion is inevitable, and that we’re all doomed and that there will come a day when all our labor has been returned to dust, and I know the sun will swallow the only earth we’ll ever have, and I am in love with you.”

"It seems as if my heart has become an abandoned house,
inhabited by only the ghosts of past loves.
So I’ve boarded up the doors and windows,
daring no one to come in.
The outside a dull colour,
gaining no interest from others.
No Trespassing signs nailed up
to ward away strangers.
But I crave to see it come back to life,
to thrive with life and colour.
4 rooms lit from corner to corner by 32 lights,
walls painted to match the iris’ I lose myself in,
the floors as soft as the skin I long to feel,
and the record player filling the house
with the beautiful sounds of vocal chords.
My only wish is to find a renovator,
and hope she doesn’t leave it incomplete,
making it worse than it was before."
